Migrant Leaders partners with the NSPCC to co-develop and deliver expert safeguarding training to Migrant Leaders mentors.

Our Migrant Leaders quarterly Mentors Webinars are aimed at increasing our engagement with mentors, providing an opportunity to hear interesting speakers on topics that inform our aims and objectives and last, but not least, enabling our mentors to network, share their experiences and learn from each other. Our webinars are delivered online, via Zoom, and this quarter we are pleased to have delivered parts 1 and 2 of our Safeguarding Briefing, in partnership with the NSPCC. The first Migrant Leaders Quarterly Mentors Webinar was delivered during Black History Month, Professor Mary Bosworth spoke about representation in collaboration with University of Oxford.

Kathryn Grice, a member of the Migrant Leaders Executive Team expressed “It's hard not to put your teacher hat on when listening to these presentations and put ex pupils' faces to the statistics mentioned. The presentation explored the under representation of practitioners - such as judges, barristers, police officers - in the criminal justice system from global majority citizens; coupled with the overrepresentation of them within the justice system - in arrests, custody, prisons etc. There is significant work to be done and as we know, education plays a huge part in change.”

Migrant Leaders delivered this Education Conference for the 4^th year to support students with access to top universities . This webinar included expert training with Varsity Scholars founder Kate Kettle to support university applications. In collaboration with Granger Reis topics covered included How to Hack Job Applications and How to Make Social Media Work for Your Career.

We have been energised by bringing together Migrant Leaders mentees and mentors in our Migrant Leaders Connect Conference with training in collaboration with University of Warwick. Topics covered included Finding Your Strengths and a Leading Engineering Career Story.

We look forward to Migrant Leaders Founder & CEO Elham Fardad speaking at the University of Warwick Change Maker Series on the topic of collaboration across sectors. Elham Fardad, herself an alumni of the Warwick Executive MBA which she completed in 2003, says:

We are delighted to announce that the Migrant Leaders partnership with Smith & Nephew is continuing for a second year bringing insights, exposure and experiences to our deserving young mentees. Thank you everyone at Smith & Nephew.
Our next project delivered on 13^th July, was a deep dive into STEM careers through a multi-workstream digital workshop for our mentees. This workshop challenged stereotypes and promoted diversity and inclusion in STEM careers. The Smith & Nephew team demonstrated the variety of careers available with STEM qualifications within one company. Our Mentees saw a mechanical engineering experiment and a technology pitch as examples of typical workshop tasks. The Talent Acquisition team provided insights into how recruitment works to help our young people consider how their skills and abilities translate to the workplace. They heard what a good CV looks like, how to write covering letters and learned about skills employers are looking for.

We are delighted to bring our resilience module to life with our webinar with Winston Ben Clements on 8th July 2020.

Winston Ben Clements was predicted to live a life of isolation and pain due to a rare bone disorder known as Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). This condition caused his bones to be extremely fragile, suffering over 200 fractures in his lifetime. Despite this, he has taken a stand for a quality of life that knows no excuses and no limits.

Winston has shared his story on stages, conferences and media platforms all around the world. He specialises in resilience and leadership training as well as diversity and inclusion.

We are pleased to deliver this year’s Migrant Leaders Education Conference on Saturday 20th June delivered as a live digital workshop. In particular we are delighted to continue our collaborations with Varsity Scholars Kate Kettle and Hjalti Rognvaldsson training our young people on university applications, communication and presentation skills. On 5^th March 2020 the Founder & CEO of Migrant Leaders delivered a talk about Diverse Talent on the main stage at the SHE Conference in Oslo, Norway. The SHE Conference is the largest Gender Equality Conference in Europe bringing together more than 3000 delegates and leaders from corporates, politics, social enterprises and diverse backgrounds to gain perspectives and collaborate. We are energised by the conference we delivered with Kantar Consulting to the talented young Mentees on our Migrant Leaders development programme. This impactful conference included presentations, communications training, Virtual Reality demos, EVA and cultural insights among the many other features of this differentiated quality experience for our deserving young people. This ‘consulting in creative industries’ conference truly widened horizons, linking their strengths to careers ranging from customer analytics to branding.
