Migrant Leaders Mentor: Laith Al-Rubaiy

I had a long journey from Iraq to the US then the UK starting from a junior doctor who had just graduated from Basra Medical school to a senior consultant in my field and a winner of the prestigious award “ Young Gastroenterologist of the year in the UK”.  I have learned three lessons on how to achieve your goals:

1. Dare to be different: If you keep doing what you always do, you get the same results each time. Curiosity is the key to succeed in this fast pacing world.
2. It is not luck but persistence and staying focused are what will get you what you want.
3. You should go as far as you can but do not forget where you came from. Do not be shy from your roots, your name. Keep chin up and focus on your good qualities.
